A quiet and pretty wedding occurred at the home of Francis J. Bourgarde, Jr., 46 Burnside avenue, Oneonta, N.Y., on Thursday, when Mr. Bourgarde and Miss Marie W. Blessing of Meriden, Conn., were united in marriage by Rev. E. J. Farley, of the First Baptist church, at 9 p.m.

The bridesmaid was a sister of the groom, Miss Marie Bourgarde, and the best man was Lewis Bedford. Refreshments were served and an enjoyable evening passed.

The groom is a fireman on the Delaware & Hudson railroad and has many friend in Oneonta, who extend congratulations and good wishes to the couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Bourgarde will reside in Oneonta.

After 55-Year Service Francis J. Bourgarde, who started his railroad career 35 years ago as call boy for the Delaware & Hudson, stepped out
of the cab of No. 536 at Binghamton yesterday and into retirement.

An engineer for 37 years, Mr. Bourgarde had a record of never having had an accident, although in 1888, during the great blizzard, his train was tied up three days near Schenectady.

Resident of Binghamton. Mr. Bourgarde was a fireman up to 1903 when he was appointed engineer. Since then he has driven his locomotive a distance equal to 50 times around the Equator.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Francis J. Bourgarde, 86, formerly of 100 Front street, died at noon yesterday in Binghamton. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Drachler of Greene and Mrs. John Dundon of Chenango Forks; two sons, Lester F. Bourgarde of York, Pa., and Henry Bourgarde of Hillcrest; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. John LaPointe of Charlotte, N.C. and Mrs. Lester Merritt, Sr., of Carbondale, Pa., and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church; St. Mark's Lodge; 1001, F&AM; Otseningo Scottish Rite Consistory and Kalurah Shrine.
