Augusta Amalie married Friedrich Wilhelm ("William") FEIGE abt. 1846 in Marklissa, Silesia, Prussia, Germany . The couple had (at least) 8 children. Friedrich Wilhelm ("William") FEIGE was born 7 June 1824 in Marklissa, Silesia, Prussia, Germany (Marklissa, Schlesien, Preußen). Friedrich Wilhelm ("William") died 9 June 1892 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA (Coltsville). Friedrich Wilhelm ("William") was the child of Johann Gottfried FEIGE and Unknown VOGEL?.
Augusta Amalie THEUNERT died 27 May 1900 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA .
Augusta Amalie Theunert was born 4 Nov 1823 in Lauban, Silesia, Prussia. She was baptized 9 Nov 1823 in Lauban. Augusta was the daughter of Johann Karl Gottlieb Theunert and Johanna Rosalie Mennig. Sometime around 1830 or so, Augusta's family moved from Lauban to Marklissa (a few miles South). We suspect that Augusta married Wilhelm Friedrich Feige in Marklissa. Wilhelm Friedrich Feige was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Feige. His mother is not known. We have been unable to locate the baptism and marriage records from Marklissa, so far. We know they exist, but copies seem to be unavailable in the U.S. We are trying to come up with a plan to get them from either the Polish Archives or directly from the church (assuming it still exists) or town.
Records from Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield indicate that Augusta married Wilhelm Friedrich Feige in Prussia in 1845 however, records also show that their first-born child, Augusta Amalie Feige, was born in Marklissa in April of 1844. We are thinking the marriage was probably in Marklissa. The date would be sometime around 1844/ 45.
Wilhelm and Augusta arrived in New York on December 10, 1853. They traveled on the ship Donau, embarking from Hamburg. Wilhelm was 29 years old. Augusta was 30. They traveled with their 10-year-old daughter, Amalie; 6-year-old twins, Alwine and Louise; and a 4-year-old son, Carl. Augusta’s sister, Maria (age 24), and her husband Augustus Froehlich were also aboard Donau, along with Augusta’s unmarried sisters Henrietta (age 19) and Rosalie (age 27). It appears that the family initially went to Mechanicville, NY in late 1853-1854, although this is not completely proven. By 1855, they were all in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Wilhelm worked in a factory in 1855. In 1860, he is listed as a loom fixer. In 1869, he is a grocer, and by 1880, a farmer, owning property on Churchill Street in the North Woods section of Pittsfield. In 1891, he appears to be working for his son-in-law, at Gimlich & White. He died in Pittsfield on June 9, 1892 at the age of 68. Sometime after Wilhelm’s death, Augusta moved to Auburn, NY to live with her son George and his wife, Charlotte. She returned to Pittsfield before her death on May 27, 1900. She was 76 years old. According to her obituary, Augusta was an active member of Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield for many years.
NEED: Marriage in Marklissa? Checked Lauban, not there. Is there a PHOTO of her anywhere out there?
