Johanna Rosalie married Johann Karl Gottlieb THEUNERT abt. 1820 in (Marklissa?), Prussia, Germany . The couple had (at least) 8 children.
Johann Karl Gottlieb THEUNERT was born 29 September 1792 in Germany (German States) (German Empire). Johann Karl Gottlieb died 19 May 1838 in Marklissa, Silesia, Prussia, Germany (Marklissa, Schlesien, Preußen).
Johanna Rosalie married (2) Karl (Charles) SCHMIDT (SMITH) abt. 1846 in Marklissa, Silesia, Prussia, Germany . Karl (Charles) SCHMIDT (SMITH) was born abt. 1800 in Germany (German States) (German Empire). Karl (Charles) died 7 June 1877 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA (Coltsville).

***NEED: Birth or baptism info birth abt. 1795 in Marklissa, marriage in Marklissa or Lauban (hopefully) sometime around 1821. Is there a PHOTO of her anywhere out there? ***
NOTE: At the time of her birth, Marklissa was located in Saxony NOT Silesia.
Is she related to Johann Gottlieb Mannig, who married Johanne Rosine Holzmüller and had children in Lauban in the 1820s? Is he her brother?
NOTE: Did her husband die in 1838 in Marklissa and then did she marry Schmidt? It looks like she might be listed as Schmidt Mannig in the marriage record for her daughter, Augusta. If so, she married Schmidt sometime between 1838 and 1846, probably in Marklissa (no records seem to exist for that timeframe).
Note: Even though we found her grave, the cemetery has no record of her burial.
Details of the family tree of Johanna appear below.

Is this her? Photo thanks to Karen Blessing.
This photo, along with a photo of a man (see her husband's page) are unmarked. They were placed on the same page as Frederick and Henrietta Blessing, just above them. They are not likely to be Frederick Blessing's parents because we don't believe they ever came to America. It seems likely that they are Henrietta's parents due to the placement in the album, along with the facial resemblances to many other known family members.
NOTE: If anyone out there has a copy of this photo or a different photo of someone who might be this person, please contact us. Help us solve the family mystery! Thanks!

The German Evangelical Lutheran church - In 1859, when the Protestant German population of Pittsfield was about 400, arrangements were made by a portion of them for devine service in their own language. These services were first held in private houses, and with occasional visits by clergymen from New York. But in April, 1859, Rev. Augustus Grotrain, a learned and able minister of Albany, accepted a call, and organized the German...Read full story

This grave was found next to the grave of Rosalie's daughter, Johannah Theinert Vogel Neubert in the Pilgrims Rest section of the Pittsfield Cemetery. It had fallen over. When we returned it to an upright position, we discovered it read "Mother" on the top (see photo below). It's her!

Making it Right
We searched and found you fallen
Part of us is a gift from you long ago
We made it right, lifted you
so now you can proudly cast a shadow
instead of sinking into one -
the sun can now better warm you (or our memories of you),
others may now "meet" you and feel connected as we do,
widening the circle in which you are the center
We are - because you once were
You brought us - the future - here on your journey
a journey we so wish to understand, but you - unable to tell us...
You live in us, somewhere - too complicated
So, we brought you a flower
a piece of life placed beside you with care and love
to thank you for the piece of life you gave to us,
to thank you for carrying us to this place on your strong shoulders
(who/ where would we be without you?)
We breathe life into you in the best way we know of,
so you can stand proud - remembered
and tell the whole world that your footsteps once
made impressions on its soil
that your breath once combined with the world's air
and your smile once touched the hearts of other people
You were fallen
now lifted
we made it right
(our small "gift" to your memory)
to keep our circle alive
