Carl Heinrich Feige, b. 24 May 1860, Pontoosuc Ave., Pittsfield, MA - baptised 1 July 1860. Parents are Wilhelm Feige and Auguste Teunert. Witnesses: Carl Traushke, Minna Traushke, Carl Vogel
The German Evangelical Lutheran church - In 1859, when the Protestant German population of Pittsfield was about 400, arrangements were made by a portion of them for devine service in their own language. These services were first held in private houses, and with occasional visits by clergymen from New York. But in April, 1859, Rev. Augustus Grotrain, a learned and able minister of Albany, accepted a call, and organized the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pittsfield. The town subsequently granted a pleasant site in the corner of First street burial-ground, where the church was erected, at a cost of $2,274.00 and which was dedicated September 14, 1865. There present pastor is Rev. John D. Hagar.

1896 - Careless Shooting
A fire arm in the hands of somebody came very near causing trouble on River street Tuesday evening. The family of Henry Feige were in their house when suddenly a report was heard and a shot came tearing through the window and became imbedded in the wall. It is understood the person who did the firing was very indignant when asked to pay for the windows he brook. A complaint which would land him before the court was what is needed.

1899 - Two Men Now Held Under Suspicion - They Tell Contradictory Stories
Henry Feige, watchman for Gimlich & white at their brewer on the corner of Columbus avenue and John street, was assaulted about 2:25 o'clock this morning by six men. An entrance was gained to the office, the object undoubtedly being to blow open the large safe. Feige's outcries were heard by the neighbors and the burglars fearing detection fled before securing any booty. Feige was of the opinion that six men were implicated in the assault, although not certain this number of men were there.
This morning the police made five arrests on suspicion, but only two, John Feeley of this city and Lyman Johnson of Lakeville, Conn., were held. These men were unable to give a good account of their travels during the night and will be kept at the station house for further examination. Feeley and Johnson were about the city during the evening spending some time at the St. Josephs band fair. Later in the evening they were seen on Wahconah street. They claim to have spent some time in the new...Read MORE...

1903 - Fire In Brewery Barn
Stubborn Blaze Keeps Firemen Busy for Hours
Loss Will Be Fully $3000 - Great Crowd Out.
From Tuesday's Eagle.
By far the most serious conflagration with which the fire department has been forced to battle in several months, broke out last night shortly after 11 o'clock, in the large barn owned by the Berkshire Brewing association and located in the rear or the company's works on Columbus avenue.
For two hours the firemen valiantly fought the flames, but the large quantity of hay stored in the building had occasioned such a fierce blaze that before the department arrived, a goodly portion of the structure was consumed.
While the extent of the damage cannot be estimated at the present time, it is believed that the loss to the building will be about $2000 and the loss to the contents nearly $1000. The loss is fully covered by insurance through the J. M. Stevenson, F. F. Read and F. A. Cooley agencies.
The origin of the fire is a mystery, and while it is believed that the...Read MORE...

My note:
Henry Feige is found in Agawam in 1910 working as a farm hand for Willard C. Crouss, son of his cousin Augusta Vogel (Johanna's daughter). Henry was widowed at the time. Henry was 50 and Willard was 38. By 1915, Henry had gone to live in Webster, where his brother George was working as an electrician for one of his nephews. Henry's obit stated that when he died in Agawam, he was the guest of relatives. Sounds like he had returned to visit/ or stay with Willard C. Crouss and family.

Informant: W. C. Crouss
