"Miss Mary E. Madden and Everett J. Fraley were married at 9 o'clock yesterday morning in St Charles church. The ceremony was performed by Rev W. J. Dower and was witnessed by a large number of friends and relatives. Mary Donovan was bridemaid and Clifford Fraley, a brother of the groom, was best man. Following the ceremony there was a wedding breakfast at the home of the bride's parents on Danforth avenue, which was attended by the members of the families of the bride and groom. A large number of wedding presents were received. The groom is employed in the Pontoosuc mill."

1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The operation aimed to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control. The landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the eventual Allied victory in Europe.

1945 - The atomic bomb is invented (J. Robert Oppenheimer, et al., United States)

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' 1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Funeral Tomorrow

Everett Fraley

The funeral of Everett J. Fraley will be held tomorrow morning at 8:15 from the Devanny Funeral Home, kith a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mark's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9., The Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30.

Everett J. Fraley

A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Everett J. Fraley was celebrated this morning at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. Msgr. Joseph I. Johnson. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, where the Rev. John F. Dunleavy offered prayers at the grave. Bearers were George E. Gallagher Jr., Charles A. Simonelli, Anthony J. Simonelli, Conio Carbone, Bernard E. Luciani and Edward J. Tobin, all grandsons.
