Marriage notes:
Evelyn Fraley Becomes Bride
Married to Charles Simonelli, Liberated Prisoner
Miss Evelyn Regina Fraley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Everett J Fraley, 10 Kent Avenue, was married Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Church to Charles J Simonelli, son for Mr and Mrs Eroll Simonelli, North Adams. Rev. Charles L. Foley, pastor, performed the 9 o'clock ceremony before and altar banked with pink carnations. Miss Anna Larkin was organist, Jan Webber violinist, and William Hurst vocalist.
The bride was dressed in princess-style white satin with court train and duchess cap of Madeira lace. She carried a prayer book with gardenias and stephanotis streamers. Miss Mary Simonelli, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. Her blue taffeta gown was styled like the bride's, and she wore a calot of blue sequins with shoulder veil. Her bouquet was of talisman roses. Bridesmaids were the Misses Lorraine Madden of Springfield, cousin of the bride, and Evelyn Massery of Pittsfield. They wore pink gowns and headdresses similar to the maid of honor's, and carried pink roses.
Samuel Grande of North Adams was best man, and Cpl. Norman Fraley, the bride's brother, and Alfred Rustuccia of Dorchester ushered. After a reception at AOH Hall, the couple left on a wedding trip. For traveling, the bride wore a brown wool suit, matching topcoat with sable furs, green accessories and orchid corsage.
Mrs. Simonelli is a graduate of St. Joseph's High School. The bridegroom, now discharged, is a former German prisoner. Prior to his capture, he was an Air Force radio operator and gunner in the European theatre. He is a Drury High School graduate.
The bride was feted at prenuptial showers by her aunt, Mrs. Dennis Cronin of 25 Greenway Street; by her sisters, Mrs. Henry B. Rhinehart and Mrs. George E. Gallagher, both of Lenox; by the Misses Lena and Mary Simonelli of North Adams, sisters of the bridegroom, and by her bowling league.

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

News1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.
