"Pittsfield, Feb. 25 - Miss Eileen Ethel Fraley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Everett Fraley of 89 Orchard street, was married to George Edward Gallagher, son of Mrs Margaret Gallagher of 30 South Merriam street, at St Joseph's church yesterday morning with Rev Martin J. Tracy of Leeds officiating. Miss Eleanor Eagen, organist at St Mark's church, played and William H. Hurst sang. The attendants were Miss Betty Fraley, sister of the bride, and John Connors."

"The bride wore a gown of ice blue crepe, with a matching velvet turban and a shoulder veil. She carried a muff of pink roses and purple hyacinths. The maid of honor's gown was of yellow velvet, worn with a matching turban and veil. For flowers, she carried a muff of yellow roses and mimosa."

"The wedding was followed by a breakfast at the home of the bride's parents. The decorations were blue and white. Later, Mr and Mrs Gallagher left on an unannounced wedding trip. The bride traveled in a costume of green crepe, with brown accessories and a fur coat. They will be at home at 11 Jubilee terrace after March 1."

"Mrs Gallagher graduated in 1932 from St Joseph's high school. Her husband graduated in 1925."

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Mr and Mrs George Gallagher of 30 South Merriam St. were honored on their 40th wedding anniversary recently at a part at Itam Lodge, where 160 attended.

The former Eileen Fraley of Pittsfield, Mrs Gallagher and her husband, also a Pittsfield native were married on Feb. 24, 1935 in St. Joseph's Church. They have four children, George Jr., Mrs. Canio Carbone, Mrs. Bernard Luciani and Mrs. Shaun Broderick, all of this city, and 11 grandchildren.

Mr Gallagher retired in July 1972 from the city's Department of Public Works. Mrs. Gallagher is employed at Liggett Rexall Super Drugstore.

George Gallagher Sr. George E. Gallagher Sr., 74, of 30 South Merriam St. died Sunday afternoon at Hillcrest Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Pittsfield, the son of Joseph and Margaret Duffy Gallagher. He was a St. Joseph's High School graduate and a catcher for the former Nationwide semi-pro baseball team. He was employed by the Pittsfield Highway Department for 29 years, retiring in 1972. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Mens' Society, the Senior Citizens and the Golden Agers. He and his wife, the former Eileen E. Fraley, had celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary last February. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, George E. Gallagher Jr. of Pittsfield; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara A. Carbone of Westfield, and Mrs. Mary M. Luciani and Mrs. Donna M. Broderick, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Gallagher and Miss Ann Gallagher, both of Pittsfield, and 13 grandchildren.
