"The Settlers of the Beekman Patent, Volume 2 - Family Sketches
"5. BENJAMIN6 ALMY, (Joseph5, Job4, William3, Christopher2, William1) was born 13 December 1761 at Dartmouth and m. Hepsibah ____ who was born ca. 1768. They came to Pawling by 1790 when he was listed on the census as 1-0-2, next to Daniel Wood and Elihu and John Russel, and in 1800 as 3-0-2-1-0 and 2-1-0-1-0, next to Reuben Wooster and Humphrey Ellis.

His house and lot in 1799 were valued at $168.75 and his personal estate at $76.

In 1810 he was in Dover with 2-3-3-1-1 and 2-1-1-1-0. He was next to Isaac Thomas and Buel Giddings. He was probably in the Dover area all along since Dover was formed after 1800 and before 1810.

Benjamin and John Almy were customers at the Duncan store in Dover ca. 1790, as was Nicholas, son of John and Rose Almy. [DCSB 'D' 111, 278, 269]. Harry, son of Benjamin was a customer at the Gage & Titus store in Dover ca. 1809-10. Clark Almy was also a customer at this store. [DCSB W:16, 506].

Benjamin Almy was mentioned as a boundary in a mortgage of 6 July 1806. He was probably in lot 39 or 41 of the Oblong [Webatuck area] near James Martin and Benjamin Thomas. [M 10:548]. On 19 Jan. 1813 Josiah Raymond mortgaged to Benjamin Almy of Dover 40 acres of land which bounded the middle of the Oblong, James Martin, Benjamin Thomas and John Wing. [M 20:118].

The information we have on his children does not equal the census listings for 1800. There were probably more children, although there would have to be multiple births to fit them all in.

Children: i. Sarah, b. 1792. ii. Clark. He had dau. Maria C. who m. Clement Haight. [DCCBR 575]. iii. Harry. iv. ? v. Humphrey, b. 3 June 1804 at Canaan, ?CT; m. Ruth Austin. vi. Almon, b. 1805; m. (2) Sarah Cross. vii. Robert, b. 1806; m. (1) Harriet Salsbury, (2) Eliza Salsbury. viii. Egbert, b. 1812, supposedly at Greenwich, NY; m. Sarah C. Hinchman. ix. Thomas, b. Dec. 1814; m. Sarah Beebe."

NewsThe War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain, lasting from 1812 to 1815. It was primarily fueled by issues such as trade restrictions due to Britain's ongoing war with France, impressment of American sailors into the British Navy, and British support of Native American tribes against American expansion.
