Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. BLESSING. In Hartford. Mrs. Mary (Stafford) Blessing, 92, of 34 Burnbrook Road, East Hartford, widow of Frank Blessing, died Friday (March 7) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She was born In Cloyne, County Cork, Ireland, and had lived In East Hartford for the last 47 years. She was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church, East Hartford, and was a member of the church's Ladles Guild. She leaves four daughters, Miss Frances Blessing and Mrs. Hazel Anderson, both of East Hartford, Mrs. Esther Cody of West Hartford and Mrs. Ruth Crawford of Fltzwilllams, N.H.; a son, Robert F. Blessing of East Hartford; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:15 a.m. from the Callahan Funeral Home, 1602 Main St., East Hartford, followed by a mass of Christian burial, 11 a.m., at St. Christopher's Church, East Hartford. Burial will be In St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours are Monday, 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
