Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Ruth (Blessing) Crawford, 83, of East Hartford, wife of the late Charles P. Crawford, passed away Saturday (Sept. 4) at a local convalescent home. Born in Hartford, she had resided in the Hartford area for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford, and a member of its Ladles Guild. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Charles C Crawford. Mrs. Crawford is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Paul Furdon of Foster, R.I.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Crawford of Marshfield, Mass., David and Anne Crawford of Franklin, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Ethel Crawford of Wynnewood, Okla.; a
Brother: , Robert F. Blessing of East Hertford; three
