ROCHDALE, June 1. - The funeral service of Benjamin F. Barnes was this afternoon at 2.30, in the Episcopal church, Rochdale, Rev. F. B. Bailey officiating. There was singing by the Schumann quartet, Worcester.

The Howarth mill, where the deceased had been a watchman several years, closed for 2 to 4.

The body was accompanied from the house to the church by a delegation of G.A.R. veterans, who also conducted services at the grave in Rochale cemetery...

Mr. Barnes was born in Auburn, where he lived during his boyhood. He enlisted in D Co. 12th Massachusetts volunteer infantry, and served during the Civil war. After the war he came to Rochdale, where he lived over 40 years. For 35 years he owned and conducted the blacksmith shop now owned and conducted by Charles Hardy. For many years he was chairman of the board of health of Leicester, and has filled other important town offices.

He is survived by his wife and seven children.
