Anna Korch was the daughter of Slovakian immigrants Andro (Andrew) Kovalcik and Albeta (Elizabeth) Tomko. Anna was born July 5, 1891 in East Lyme, Connecticut. By 1900, the family had moved to Thompson, Connecticut. At the time of their marriage, Anna, age 17, worked in a mill and Willard was an electrician. The young couple made their home in Thompson, Connecticut, just over the Massachusetts border. Willard worked in Webster, Massachusetts, as an electrician for his cousin Charles W. Bergmann, who owned a shop on Main Street. Around 1916, Willard, Anna and children moved to Webster. Sometime during the 1920s, Willard suffered a stroke and was unable to perform electrical work with the same level of ability he had prior to the stroke.
After Willard's death, Anna was left with seven children. She worked in Webster in a woolen mill. Eventually, she remarried. Her second husband was named Herb Wolfe. I have no idea when or where they were married. I have no memory of ever seeing him. True to the family heritage, Anna owned a beautiful cuckoo clock. Any time we visited, she would stand next to the clock for nearly an eternity making the cuckoo chirp. I don’t know much about her personality, other than the fact that she always seemed happy and treated us very well. I have a strong mental picture of her as well as a visual memory of the rooms and furniture layout of her house in Dudley. She died in 1971. She was 80 years old.
