Or, de Puy, from the Latin 'podium' which means 'base' and represents a rocky height of volcanic origin. Or also, nickname given to the one whose house has or is close to a communal well.
Martin Dupuis was born around 1665 in Port-Royal, Acadie. Son of Michel Dupuis and Marie Gautrot, he married Marie Landry (16), daughter of René Landry and Marie Bernard, around 1686 in Port Royal, Acadia. From their union 13 children were born. In 1693, he lived in the village of Les Mines, in Acadie. He died on August 8, 1713 in Grand Pré, Acadia.

Their eight daughters married into the Hébert, Blanchard, LeBlanc, Babin, Aucoin, and Robichaud dit Cadet families. They settled at Minas, where Martin died in August 1713, age 48. His descendants were especially numerous at Rivière-aux-Canards, or the River of the Ducks. '
