Death of Hon. Amzi Wood.
Hon. Amzi Wood, one of the oldest and best known of the old school lawyers in this county, died at the residence of his grandson, W. L. Wood, of 54 Elizabeth street, Friday evening at the advanced age of 92 years and 6 months.
The deceased was born in the town of Scipio and for several years was a country lawyer. Fifty years ago he moved to Auburn and practiced law for several years. He was at one time special county judge and was prominent in Democratic politics. He was a man of ability and was widely known. He served a term as United States Consul to Mexico under President Buchanan. During the war he was an active solicitor for collecting funds for relieving the sick and wounded soldiers in active service.
The funeral was held from the residence of his grandson, Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock.
