NORTHAMPTON. Dec. 14. (AP) - Dr. Clarence I. Sparks and Mrs. Matila I. Zember, a nurse in his private hosptial at Easthampton were arraigned today on three counts charging performance of a criminal operation upon Miss Jessie Lyman of Westhampton on November 2. Miss Lyman died on November 12, in a Northampton hospital to which she was sent by Dr. Sparks.

Both Dr. Sparks and Mrs. Zember pleaded not guilty as did Kenneth D. Childs who was arraigned on being an accessory after the fact. Childs is 26 years old, married ant the father of two children. Bail for the doctor and nurse was set at $10,000 each and Childs at $1000.

Dr. Sparks formerly was medical examiner of Hamden county and resigned his position after Governor Fuller had ordered an investigation into the girl's death. Miss Lyman was a secretary.

Northampton, Feb. 23 - The criminal section of the superior court opened this morning. There are 51 cases on the criminal list, including those of Dr. Clarence I Sparks and Louise M. Zembler or Easthampton, charged with abortion, and Kenneth D. Childs of this city, charged with adultery. Ira Dunning Held for Grand Jury - K. D. Childs Accused of Receiving Stock

Northampton, May 31 - Ira A. Dunning of Florence pleaded not guilty in district court today of larceny and having waived examination was held for the grand jury in $1000 bond. Lacking bail, he was committed. It is alleged that Dunning stole 20 share of the National Transit company and 10 shares of the stock of Standard Oil company of Indiana from Samuel H. Mann of Florence. The shares were stolen from the Mann house, and is is said that they were subsequently sold at Hartford for $460.

Kenneth D. Childs of Florence was charged with having recieved the stock stolen from the Mann house and he also waived examination. Childs was held for the grand jury in $1000 bail and lacking bail was committed. The case was investigated by Lieut Albert M. Dasey, state detective...

Judson O. Young of Wilbraham, Mass. sold a piece of land with buildings at Little Alum in Brimfield to Kenneth D. Childs of Northampton, Mass. for $2,000.

Mr and Mrs Guy R Mellen and son, Richard, were guests last week of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Childs at Little Alum lake, Brimfield.

L. (Ter. Ed.) c. 231, Section 96, where there was no surety on the bond given by the defendant under c. 239, Section 5, as appearing in St. 1946, c. 175, Section 1, on the appeal from the District Court and findings of fact were necessary to show whether or not the bond was 'secured by cash or its equivalent': such findings were not part of the record on the appeal to this court.

Kenneth D. Childs and Jennette G. Childs of Dunedin, Florida sell land and buildings on the southerly shore of Little Alum Pond to Edgar A. Tremblay and Jeannette M. Tremblay of Southbridge.

This is the same property as sold to Kenneth D. Childs from Judson O. Young, July 10, 1942.

At this time, there was also a lot across the street sold by Childs to Tremblay, the same property sold to Childs by Young, September 3, 1954.

NORTHAMPTON - Kenneth Daview Childs, 74, of Dunedin, Fla. and 12 Grandview St., Northampton died Saturday in Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, Fla. Born in Northampton and a retired independent manufacturers representative of business forms, he was a member of the Florence Congregational Church and served there on various committees. He belonged to the Mt. Moriah Lodge, AF and AM of Westfield, Ma., Melha Temple Shrine of Springfield, and the Bay Wood Shores Club and the Business and Civic Association, both of Dunedin, Fla. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Jennette (Gilligan) Childs; two sons, Robert C. of Florence and William E. of Leeds; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy C Emery and Mrs Mary E Carroll, both of Florence, and Mrs Ernestine C Caldwell of Suffield, Conn.; 13 grand-children and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at the Florence Congregational Church with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery.
