Saint Petersburg, a banking post-town of Hillsboro co., Fla., on Tampa Bay and on the Atlantic Coast Line, 31 miles S. of Tarpon Springs. It has ice and cigar-factories and is a shipping point for salt-water fish. It is a summer and winter-resort. Pop. in 1900, 1575.

...Jacksonville, Fla., Oct. 26. - The entire waterfront of St. Petersburg was wiped out by the gulf storm yesterday, the worst gale the city has ever expressed, according to a message received by the Times-Union tonight from Thomas W. Parking of St. Petersburg, deputy license collector of Pinellas county.

Passagrille was reported as wiped out, he said. His telegram follows.
"Came from St. Petersburg to Brooksville in Ford car; only means get wire connections. The city badly damaged and observations coming through county 90 per cent, citrus fruit gone. Reports say 10:30 a. m., Passagrille absolutely wiped out. Entire St. Petersburg waterfront wiped out. All previous storms to comparison. Town in total darkness for three days."...

1922 - ATTACKED BY FISH, YOUNG LADY DIES
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 17. — Supposedly attacked by barracuda, a species of carnivorous fish, while swimming near the municipal pier today, Miss Dorothy MacLatchie, a high school student, received injuries which proved fatal after she was brought ashore. Miss MacLatchie, who was considered an expert swimmer, was with a friend when bitten by the fish, and was towed more than half a mile by her companion before the latter’s cries for aid were heard.

St. Petersburg, Fla., (AP) – Mack HOPEEN, 37, a construction worker, rolled off a divan where he was sleeping, struck his neck on the ragged edge of a coffee can used as an ash tray and bled to death. He severed the jugular vein in his neck and died 35 minutes later.
