OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY

John D. Spencer Dies at His Home in Wakefield last Satruday-Was 85 years of age-John Decker Spencer was born in Orange County, New Jersey (New York), October 4, 1832. When quite young he married Charity Goldsmith and to this union three children were born, of whom only one, Mrs. Mary E. Harris, of Homer Nebr. survives.

His first wife dying in 1863, Mr. Spencer married Harriett Carnrike on August 13, 1864. They moved to Nebraska in the spring of 1870, being among the first settlers of Dakota County.

In 1875 they moved to Wisconsin, and lived there until 1898, when they moved back to
Wakefield, Nebr., and here they remained until the end. Mr. Spencer had been failing for some two years, and for the last year had been very weak and ill. He quietly breathed his last in sleep on the 20th of October, 1917, at the advanced age of eighty-five years and sixteen days. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides the above named, a wife and eight children, namely
