I found out Anna Ohlander was born In Vallosa, Sweden. She was 87 years old when she died on February 4th one day after she turned 87. Anna Maria Ohlander was born in Vallosa, Sweden February 3rd, 1881. Her parents were John Ohlander and Maria Nilson. Anna migrated to the United States in 1900 at the age of 19, coming via Ellis Island. Anna married Maurice (Mauritz) Swanson in 1903 in Farmingdale, New York. Anna gave birth to twin girls on April 27th, 1908. Their names were Irene and Sigrid Marie Swanson. -- Dick Jubinville

Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Mrs. Anna Swanson

Mrs. Anna (Ohlander) Swanson, 87, formerly of 6 King St., died yesterday in City Hospital.

Born in Vallosa, Sweden, daughter of John and Maria (Nilson) Swanson, she was the widow of Maurice F. Swanson, who died in 1944, and lived in Worcester for most of her life.

She leaves two daughters, Sigrid M., wife of Raymond J. Clarkson of Leicester, and Irene H., wife of Frank L. Weaver of Auburn; four garndchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in Putnam Funeral Parlors, 866 Main St. Burial will be in New Swedish Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
