1903 - Assault
... James D. Grant was charged with assault on Reuben Baker. Both men are employed in the dye house managed by the Hamilton Woolen Co. They work near together. Baker testified that Saturday morning he was intentionally struck by a truck being pushed by Grant through an alley in the dye house, and that directly after, he was twice violently pushed by Grant who attmpted to choke him. Baker stated that the assault was committed purely out of revenge. Grant testified that he struck Baker accidentally with the truck and that he was obliged to twice pus him in order to ?

Government witnesses, Charles Hetchen and Matthew Ward, both employed in the dyhouse, corroborated statements made by the prisoner. Judge Clarke did not find sufficient evidence to convict Grant and ordered him discharged. Atty. H. B. Montague appeared for defendant.

1904 - Is Missing From Home
Reuben Baker Leaves Folks in Southbridge.

Wife Says She Has Not Heard From Him.

SOUTHBRIDGE, June 19 - Reuben Baker, 11 Sayles street, has disappeared from his Southbridge home and according to statements made by his wife to Capt Marcus L Dillaber last night, and to a reporter for The Telegram, this afternoon, his whereabouts are unknown. He has been missing since Friday, June 3, when relatives supposed that he left the town to look for work.

Mrs Baker told the reporter that when leaving, her husband promised to write, but she had heard nothing concerning his actions. The missing man is widely known in Southbridge and was an employe of the Hamilton Woolen Co.

Baker was in Southbridge Wednesday afternoon, June 1, on which date it is alleged by Capt Marcus L Dillaber, he took a silver hunting case watch, waltham movement, from Robert McLean, Lens street. Judge Henry J. Clarke Imposes Fines in Southbridge Districe Court

SOUTHBRIDGE, July 6. - When Judge Henry J. Clarke opened the District office in Southbridge, this morning, he found three prisoners in the dock, two of them charged with assault and the third with drunkenness. The victim of Southbridge tanglefoot was Reuben Baker, who was arrested on the Fourth by Patrolman Peter Cormier. His case was soon disposed of on the payment of $5.

SOUTHBRIDGE, Jan 15... When Reuben Baker, Sayles street, called at the police station at 7 o'clock it was with the intention fo having a neighbor arrested for disturbing him.

Baker made his complaint to Patrolman James J. Coughlin who with several other officers was in the station. The officer decided, after listening to the man's tale of woe, that Baker was somewht the worse for liquor and he was escorted to the cell department of the station...

Obituary
FROM Southbridge Herald, Southbridge, MA, Thursday, Jan. 20, 1921

SOUTHBRIDGE - Reuben Baker, aged 46 years, died Thursday night at his home, 23 Sayles Street, after three days' illness from pneumonia. He was born in Manchaug and had lived in Southbridge 25 years, and at the time of his last sickness was an employee of the Litchfield Shuttle Co.

He is survived by his wife, Clorinda (Renaud) Baker, and three sons, Edward, William and Leo, and one daughter, Flora; also five brothers, Charles, William, Harry, George and Nurdan, all of Providence, and one sister, Mrs. George Plante of Esmond, R.I.

The funeral was Saturday morning from the home, a high mass of requiem being celebrated at 8.45 o'clock at St. Marys church, by Rev. Dennis Mullins. A delegation from Southbridge Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, attended. Burial was in the family lot in St. Marys cemetery, in charge of Daniel T. Morrill, undertaker, the bearers being four brothers.

Funeral
The funeral of Reuben Baker was held from his home, 23 Sayles street this morning, Services were held in St. Mary's church at 8.45 o'clock. Rev. Dennis Mullin celebrated the requiem mass. Music was directed by Mrs Josie Butler Delehanty. A delegation from Southbridge lodge, I.O.O.M., in chared of Dictator ? Chicoine attneded. The bearers were William, Charles, George and Harry Baker of Providence. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in charge of Undertaker Daniel T. Morrill.
