Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Metras was the husband of their daughter, Lucy Exena (we called her, Aunt Exena). Albert Maynard was the man who adopted Josephine Caya.

SOUTHBRIDGE - L. Exena (Tremblay) Metras, 93, formerly of 43 Fairlawn Ave., died yesterday in Providence House Nursing Home, 84 Chapin St., after an illness.

Her husband, Louis R. Metras, died in 1969. She leaves a son, Arthur Metras of Sturbridge; two daughters, Pauline Metras of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Suzanne Metras of Centreville, Va.; a
Brother: , Raymond Tremblay of Orlando, Fla.; a
Sister: , Louise Meltaus of Southbridge; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of William and Josephine (Maynard) Tremblay, and lived here all her life.

Mrs. Metras was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and its Ladies of St. Anne Sodality. She was a former active member of the American Red Cross, for which she was a certified first-aid instructor. She was a former member of the Southbridge Woman's Club.

The funeral will be held tomorrow
