Joseph  married  Marie-Jeanne GIGUERE 28 October 1805 in Yamaska, Lower Canada .  Marie-Jeanne GIGUERE  was born 8 January 1783 in Yamaska, Québec, Canada (Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska).  Marie-Jeanne died 2 November 1832 in Yamaska, Québec, Canada (Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska).  Marie-Jeanne was the child of Jean-Baptiste GIGUERE and Marie-Jeanne PEPIN.

Joseph  married  (2) Josephte BENOIT 28 October 1833 in Yamaska, Lower Canada .  Josephte BENOIT  was born 23 August 1808 in Yamaska, Québec, Canada (Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska).  Josephte died 15 November 1838 in Saint-Aimé, Québec, Canada (Massueville) (St-Aime).  Josephte was the child of Joseph BENOIT and Charlotte LANDRY.

Joseph  married  (3) Genevieve BADAYAC dite LAPLANTE 15 April 1839 in Saint-Aimé, Lower Canada .  Genevieve BADAYAC dite LAPLANTE  was born 19 July 1806 in Yamaska, Québec, Canada (Saint-Michel-d'Yamaska).  Genevieve died 17 December 1872 in Saint-Aimé, Québec, Canada (Massueville) (St-Aime).  Genevieve was the child of Jean-Baptiste BADAYAC dit LAPLANTE and Marie-Rose DANIS.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
