Peloquin Name Meaning

French:: possibly a nickname for a miser from a shortening of pèle ocquin from peler ‘to remove skin or pluck hair’ + a diminutive of ocque a French term from the Ottoman Turkish measure of weight oka. alternatively it may be an occupational name for a husker (one who removed husks from corn) from a dialect derivative of Latin pellicula ‘pellicle husk’. less probable is derivation from Occitan pelhoc a variant of pelhot ‘rag’. Compare Pelican .
