Biography
Florence Nightingale, born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy, was a trailblazing nurse and social reformer who made significant contributions to healthcare and nursing practices during the 19th century. She came from a wealthy and well-connected British family, and her parents, William Edward Nightingale and Frances Nightingale, encouraged her education.

Despite the societal expectations for women of her social class to focus on marriage and family, Florence was determined to pursue a different path. She felt a calling to nursing, a profession that was not highly regarded at the time. Against her family's wishes, she began her training as a nurse in 1851 at the Institute of Protestant Deaconesses in Kaiserswerth, Germany.

Nightingale's skills and dedication were evident early on, and her experiences abroad shaped her views on sanitation, healthcare, and the importance of nursing education. When the Crimean War broke out in 1854, she received a letter from the Secretary of
