The Oldest Woman in Wisconsin is Dead--She came to Chippewa Falls two years before the Black Hawk War.
Mrs. Angeline Demarrie, mother of Mrs. Joseph Trepanier, M. Baptiste Demarrie, and Mrs. H. S. Allen of this city, died last evening at her home of the latter and will be buried on Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, the funeral to take place from St. Mary's Church. Deceased was supposed to be 107 years old and Thomas Randall, in his history of the Chippewa Valley, claims she was 121. She was married to Louis Demarrie who was born in 1774 and who is buried in the town of LaFayette. She came to Chippewa Falls in 1830, two years before the Black Hawk War, coming up the Chippewa River. At that time Northern Wisconsin was a wilderness. There were but three log houses here.
