The War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain, lasting from 1812 to 1815. It was primarily fueled by issues such as trade restrictions due to Britain's ongoing war with France, impressment of American sailors into the British Navy, and British support of Native American tribes against American expansion. The war ended with the Treaty of Ghent, restoring pre-war boundaries but resolving few of the initial disputes.From the 1840s through the 1880s, thousands trekked westward, carrying only a few belonging and supplies for the journey, and settling on the western frontier, forever changing the American West.

The Oldest Woman in Wisconsin is Dead--She came to Chippewa Falls two years before the Black Hawk War.
Mrs. Angeline Demarrie, mother of Mrs. Joseph Trepanier, M. Baptiste Demarrie, and Mrs. H. S. Allen of this city, died last evening at her home of the latter and will be buried on Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, the funeral to take place from St. Mary's Church. Deceased was supposed to be 107 years old and Thomas Randall, in his history of the Chippewa Valley, claims she was 121. She was married to Louis Demarrie who was born in 1774 and who is buried in the town of LaFayette. She came to Chippewa Falls in 1830, two years before the Black Hawk War, coming up the Chippewa River. At that time Northern Wisconsin was a wilderness. There were but three log houses here. She was a natural physician and prescribed for and healed many people. For the last seven months she has been confined to her bed and became very childish. Up to the time of...Read full story
