Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. WORCESTER -- Rose M. (Demers) Burque, 99, formerly of 12 Benefit St., died Monday, Oct. 16, in St. Francis Home.

Her husband, Emile Burque, died in 1968. She leaves two sons, John L. Burque of Charlton and Raymond H. Burque of West Hyannis Port; an adopted son, Robert 'Pete' Randall of Worcester; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Angelina Demers, Regina Pelletier, and Roseanna Guay, and a brother, Arthur Demers, all predeceased her. A son, Paul E. Burque of Sandwich, died Sunday, Oct. 15. Another son, Joseph A. Burque of Milford died in 1989. She was born in St. Agat, Quebec, daughter of John and Malvina (Blouin) Demers, and moved to Worcester in 1922.

Mrs. Burque was a member of Notre Dame des Canadiens Church and its Holy Family Society.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 18, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Canadiens Church, Salem Square. Burial...Read MORE...
