1853 - Parish erected
Now, as Saint Agatha is the patron saint of the Irish, her name was chosen to identify the parish canonically erected in 1853, whose territory previously belonged to Saint-Gilles, as well as the post office established in 1858. From a municipal perspective, the municipality of Nelson Township, created in 1855, merged with the municipality of the parish of Sainte-Agathe (1857) – whose name was masculinized to Saint Agathe in the English text of the Official Gazette – to form the current Sainte-Agathe in 1985.
