1912 - Gas Nearly Causes Death
Aged Couple Found on Bedroom Floor - Mrs and Mrs Erdman Leidhold Have Narrow Escape.

Mr and Mrs Erdman Leidhold, and aged couple living at 610 North street, were found in an unconscious condition in a bedroom of their home yesterday morning, as a result of inhaling gas that escaped from the stove in the room. Harry Andler, an employee of Bigley's bakery, accustomed to call at the home each morning, received no response to his knock yesterday, and looking through the window he saw the couple lying on the floor in their night clothes, and making attempts to get to their feet. Mr. Andler telephoned the police, and officers were sent to the house in the patrol. It was necessary to break in the front door, and the officers made the old folks as comfortable as possible while awaiting Drs Roberts and Sullivan, who had been summoned. The stove door in the room where the couple were found was open about an inch, and all drafts were closed. Mr. Leidhold was found lying close to the bed with

Dies of Coal Gas Poisoning
Erdman Leidhold, Overcome for Second Time Within Year and a Half, Fails to Rally After Accident Saturday

Erdman Leidhold, 89, who was rendered unconscious by coal gas for the second time within a year and a half last Saturday night, died yesterday morning at his home, 610 North street. Mr and Mrs Leidhold were both found in a coma on the floor of their home Saturday, and he was taken to the House of Mercy hospital, and removed to his home Monday. Mrs Leidhold was not badly affected. Her husband failed to rally after regaining consciousness.

The aged couple were found in a like condition last fall by Harry Andler, a driver for the Bigley bakery. They had lived for years at their little cottage, and Mr Leidhold made considerable money in former days, when he conducted a German beer garden. He was born in Germany and came to this country about 50 years ago.

He leaves his widow, two sons and one daughter, all of Pittsfield. They are Louis
