"Le 8 septembre 1675, Gilles Dufault vend à Michel Brouillet-Laviolette, nouvellement arrivé de Chambly, une terre de quarante arpents pour la somme de 300 livres. Dufault, charpentier de son métier, épouse, le 26 juillet 1678, Françoise Simon, veuve de Claude Coignac dit Lajeunesse, ancien soldat du régiment de Carignan. (Note : Il mourut à l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec en mai 1678.) Le contrat de mariage nous apprend que Dufault est le fils de Pierre Dufault et de Marie Rioux, de la paroisse de Châteauneuf, évêché de Cornouailles, en Bretagne, et Françoise Simon, la fille de Pierre Simon et de Marie Gervaise, de la paroisse de Magny, archevêché de Rouen."
