Husband Denies Having Female Visitors in His Room - Both Seek Custody of Four Children
A hearing in Probate court yeatday afternoon on the petition of John F. Korch of Webster against Mary Korch of the same town, developed into a battle for the custody of their four children, two sons and two daughters. The case was taken under advisement by Judge Frederick H. Chamberlain.
Mr. Korch, who sought the custody of the children as well as a divorce, introduced evidence though his counsel to show that the wife had recently been released from the House of Correction where she had been serving a sentence on a misconduct charge.
Testimony showed the couple had been separated for more than two years. The wife went to the home of her mother in New Jersey, Nov. 13, 1933, and when she returned at the end of four months, the husband moved out of the house.
Mr. Korch said that he had supported his family and had spent between $13 and $15 a week in paying their bills. He denied having women in his room where he lived, and denied giving his son, Arthur, 10 cents to go away and say nothing when he found a woman in his father's room. He said his sister would come and keep house for him.
Mrs. Korch was asked by Judge Chamberlain what plans she had for the children if the custody was given to her. She said she planned to educated them so they could have better employment thatn was afforded in the mills. She said she worked in the mill and felt it was no place for her children.
She testified that her husband often struck her and thought it was a joke to go down town and get drunk and then come home and abuse her. On one occasion he punched her in the nose, and itw as sore for three weeks, she said.
Counsel said the mother of the wife who lives in New Jersey, is a woman of some means and is anxious to take some of the children.
Attorneys Mirick, Blackmer & Rugg and Francis E. Cassidy were counsel for the husband and Atty Telesphore Leboeuf represented the wife.
