Biography
'George W. Wright was the son of Abraham Wright and Anna Burtz Wright. He was born in Laurens County, South Carolina December 4, 1820.
His parents, Abraham and Anna, along with all their children, plus grandmother Eaditha Shirley Wright moved first to Fayette Co., Georgia in about 1825. In 1828, the family moved to near Greenville, Meriwether Co., Georgia.
George married Eliza Jane Gresham, daughter of Edward 'Ned' Gresham and Mary Hogue in Meriwether Co., Georgia November 20, 1843.
After their marriage, George was a farmer and teacher in Meriwether County and in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia.
In 1852 he was the one of the first teachers, along with William T. Revill, at the new academy established at Gay, Meriwether Co., Georgia. The land for this academy was donated by William Sasser.
Later living in the Greenville area, George and his father, Abraham, donated the land for the Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery where they both would later be laid ...Read MORE...
