Biography
Sojourner Truth, born Isabella Baumfree around 1797 in Ulster County, New York, was an African American abolitionist and women's rights activist. Her life is a remarkable story of resilience, courage, and dedication to the fight against slavery and for the rights of marginalized groups.

Sojourner Truth was born into slavery, and her early life was marked by hardship and brutality. She was owned by several different masters, experiencing the harsh realities of slavery from a young age. In 1826, she escaped from slavery with her infant daughter, leaving behind her other children due to the complexities of slave ownership.

After gaining her freedom, Isabella took the name Sojourner Truth and dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of African Americans and women. She became a prominent abolitionist speaker, sharing her personal experiences and advocating for the end of slavery.
