The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. He was born in Brunswick, May 10, 1895, son of Howard and Ernestine French Davis. he attended Brunswick schools and was graduated from Brunswick High School in 1910. Mr. Davis was a farmer in Brunswick most of his life, moving to Harpswell six years ago.

Surviving are his widow, the former Elsie Moody, two sons, James and Herbert, all of Harpswell; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Reginold, Wells, Mrs. Carl Given, Leominster, Mass., and Mrs. Mittie Manson, Lisbon Falls; a
