Newport, Maine
Penobscot county. This is a fine farming town, and watered by a large and beautiful pond which empties into Sebasticook river. It lies 56 miles N.E. from Augusta and 24 W. from Bangor. Population, 1837, 1,088. Wheat crop, same year, 5,173 bushels. This town contains a pleasant village and some mills.

1906 - Newport
Newport, a banking post-village in Newport township (town), Penobscot co., Me., on the Maine Central R., 27 miles W. of Bangor. It has manufactures of woollens and condensed milk. Here is a lake, called Newport Pond, 15 miles in circuit. Pop. of the town in 1900, 1533.
