Walpole, Massachusetts
Norfolk county. This town is finely watered by three branches of the Neponset which meet at this place. The face of the town is rough, but capable of producing good crops.

There are three cotton, two woolen, and two paper mills in the town, and manufactures of iron castings, hoes, hats, leather, straw bonnets, and twine: total value, the year ending April 1, 1837, $240,364. This pleasant and flourishing town was taken from Dedham in 1724. Population, 1837, 1,592. It is 20 miles S.W. from Boston, 10 S.W. from Dedham, and 21 N. by W. from Providence, R.I.

Walpole Massachusetts, 1890
Walpole was detached from Dedham, and incorporated. December 10, 1724. It was named in honor of Sir Robert Walpole, then prime minister of England. The New York and New England Railroad and the Mansfield and Framingham Branch of the Old Colony Railroad intersect each other in the central village, thus affording fine facilities for transportation. The postal centres are Walpole, East Walpole and South Walpole. Other villages are Plimptonville, Tilton's, and North Walpole. The town is situated in the interior of Norfolk County, 19 miles from Boston; and its boundaries are Dover on the north, Dedham, Norwood, and Sharon on the east, Foxborough on the south, and Norfolk and Medfield on the west. The assessed area is 12,459 acres; of which 2,710 are woodland.

Walpole, a post-village in Walpole township, Norfolk co., Mass., on the New York & New England Railroad, and on a branch of the Boston, Clinton & Fitchburg Railroad, 19 miles S.S.W. of Boston. It has 3 churches, and manufactures of cotton and other articles. One weekly news paper is published here. The township is drained by the Neponset River, and contains the villages of East Walpole and South Walpole. Pop. of the township (1890) 2604.

1957 - Mother, Child Die In Fire

"My God, the house is on fire. I'm trapped."

A few moments after shouting that frantic alarm into the telephone, Mrs. Doris DANEHEY, 30, and her only child, James 4 months, perished Wednesday night in their three room bungalow.

Fire Chief Aaron Hill said Mrs. DANEHEY apparently passed up her only chance to escape by making a valiant attempt to save the baby.
