Alice Irene MONAHAN was the child of Ralph Adam MONAHAN and Grace Irene LORD


Miss Alice Monahan, daughter of Mrs. Grace Monahan, Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], was married to Clifford A. Wearne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wearne, Bainbridge, Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Baptist Church, Bainbridge. The Rev. Norman Lawton, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, James Monahan, Bainbridge, wore a white velveray gown with long train, a fingertip veil of nylon and a halo of white daisies. She carried a bouquet of yellow daisies and white sweet peas. The maid of honor was Miss Patricia Perry of Devon, Conn., a classmate of the bride. The bridesmaids were Mrs. James Monahan and Mrs. Milton Simonds, Jr., of Binghamton. The ring bearer was Billie Monahan, nephew of the bride. The best man was Leonard Wearne of Blakely, Pa., brother of the bridegroom. The ushers were Milton Simonds Jr., Fayette Smith and William Butler. Mrs. Norman Lawton presided at the organ and Miss Bette Bullock of Devon, Conn., sang. A reception for 75 was held in the church parlors. The bride is a graduate of Bainbridge Central School and graduated this June from Syracuse University with a B.A Degree. The bridegroom also graduated from the Bainbridge school and was in the navy for three years. They will reside in Newark Valley [Tioga Co., NY] where she will teach art in the school there. Mr. Wearne will enter Ithaca College in September. The bride was the guest of honor at two prenuptial showers in Bainbridge. Her going-away suit was of white pique with white accessories and a corsage of red roses.

Leonard R. Wearne, 90, of Pennside, died Tuesday in the Mifflin Center, Shillington. He was the husband of Jessie Propst Wearne, who died May 29, 2009, and they had been married for 64 years.

Leonard was born in Akron, Ohio, on July 5, 1920, and was the son of the late Arthur and Carmella Charles Wearne. Leonard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Reading. He was a graduate of Blakely High School in 1938 and Temple University and Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Leonard began his teaching career in Mount Penn High School in 1968 and taught in the business education department for nine years. He then taught elementary school in Wyomissing Hills for three years, served as elementary principal at the Twin Valley School District, and as elementary principal in the Antietam School District. He was later curriculum director at Daniel Boone School District. He retired while serving as assistant superintendent at the Tulpehocken Area School District. He served in the Army...Read MORE...


Obituary
AFTON - Clifford A. Wearne, 91, of Afton, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1925, son of the late Arthur and Carmiella (Charles) Wearne in Peckville, Pennsylvania.
Cliff attended B-G school and quit to enlist in the United States Navy in October 1942. He served his country as a radioman until his honorable discharge in February 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Bainbridge to complete his education. He went on to attend Ithaca College.
On June 21, 1947, he was married to Alice Irene Monahan at the Bainbridge Baptist Church. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage. Cliff retired from NYSEG as manager of materials.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion where he served as commander until 2014. He was a lifetime member of the Afton Golf Club where he won several tournaments. Cliff was the primary contributor to Foster Park in Afton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice; son, Jim, Wearne; grandchildren, Kiri, Darci and Caleb;...Read MORE...
