Biography
Born on April 21, 1838, in Dunbar, Scotland, Muir was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmentalist, and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States. His influence was instrumental in the creation of several national parks.

Muir's family emigrated to the United States when he was only 11 years old, settling in Wisconsin. Growing up on a farm, he developed a deep connection with nature from an early age. Muir's life took a pivotal turn in 1867 when a factory accident nearly blinded him. This event inspired him to pursue his passion for nature and exploration more fervently.

In 1868, Muir undertook a thousand-mile walk from Indiana to the Gulf of Mexico, a journey that fueled his love for the natural world and the idea of preserving it. His wanderlust didn't stop there; he later explored the Yosemite Valley and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, areas that would become central to his environmental advocacy.
