George Gallagher Sr. George E. Gallagher Sr., 74, of 30 South Merriam St. died Sunday afternoon at Hillcrest Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Pittsfield, the son of Joseph and Margaret Duffy Gallagher. He was a St. Joseph's High School graduate and a catcher for the former Nationwide semi-pro baseball team. He was employed by the Pittsfield Highway Department for 29 years, retiring in 1972. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of its Mens' Society, the Senior Citizens and the Golden Agers. He and his wife, the former Eileen E. Fraley, had celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary last February. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, George E. Gallagher Jr. of Pittsfield; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara A. Carbone of Westfield, and Mrs. Mary M. Luciani and Mrs. Donna M. Broderick, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Gallagher and Miss Ann Gallagher, both of Pittsfield, and 13 grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday morning at 9:15 from the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home followed at 10 by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Mark's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
