NewsThe War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain, lasting from 1812 to 1815. It was primarily fueled by issues such as trade restrictions due to Britain's ongoing war with France, impressment of American sailors into the British Navy, and British support of Native American tribes against American expansion. The war ended with the Treaty of Ghent, restoring pre-war boundaries but resolving few of the initial disputes.
NewsFrom the 1840s through the 1880s, thousands trekked westward, carrying only a few belonging and supplies for the journey, and settling on the western frontier, forever changing the American West.

Obituary
DEATH OF FATHER BAUSMAN. —Intelligence was received here by telegraph, yesterday, that Mr. A. Bausman, of this city, died on the 23d inst., at the residence of his son, Dr. A. L. Bausman, in Minneapolis, Minn. The dispatch stated that the remains would be brought to Des Moines for interment, leaving that city Monday (to-morrow) morning, reaching here, probably, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased passed away in the ripeness of years, dying at the age of seventy. He had been in poor health for several years. All who knew him, knew him as an honorable, kind, true man. We knew him only in his sunset days, but we remember the man to honor him. We are without the history of his life, but will, in our next issue, give fitting mention on this head. As is generally known, Mr. Bausman was the father of Mr. J. B. Bausman, formerly City Engineer, of Mr. Jule Bausman, now in Utah, of Mr. A. C. Bausman, Superintendent of Mills & Co's. Bindery, and of Mrs. P. F. Bartle.
