"US Congressman, United States Supreme Court Justice. Elected to Represent Massachusetts’ 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives to fill the void caused by the death of Congressman Jacob Crowninshield, serving from 1808 to 1809. In 1811 he was appointed as an Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court by President James Madison, and served for 34 years until his death in 1845. The war ended with the Treaty of Ghent, restoring pre-war boundaries but resolving few of the initial disputes.
