ROUSSEAU - nickname given to someone with reddish hair.
Jacques Rousseau was baptized on April 13, 1645 in Ste-Catherine, Loix in Charente-Maritime in France. Son of Pierre and Marie Drillard, he contracts marriage with Marguerite Guillebourg, daughter of Charles and Françoise Bigot, before the notary Gilles Rageot on July 28, 1677. From this union are born 9 children. This pioneer arrived in the country around 1665 as an employee on board the ship Le Cat de Hollande. Subsequently, he became a landowner and cultivated the land in the Quebec region. In 1681 he lived in the seigneury of Maure and owned 2 cattle and 16 acres of land. He died on May 11, 1711 at the Hôtel de Dieu in Quebec.

'Jacques Rousseau from the parish of Saint-Nicolas died at the Hotel-Dieu of Quebec on 11 May 1711. He was 64 years old according to hospital records. As for Marguerite Guillebout, she survived her husband by a number of years. She was buried at Saint-Nicolas on 15 December 1729 at the age of 74.'
