Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures: A suburb of Quebec City, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is a peaceful community offering picturesque views of the Saint Lawrence River.

The area was first settled in 1658, more than 20 years before the creation of the parish of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures. The name Saint-Augustin was supposedly given to the parish in honour of the governor of New France from 1663-1665, Augustin de Saffray de MÉZY. The name Desmaures refers to the seigneury which was given to Jean Juchereau de Maure and his brother.

This residential suburb of Québec City contains an important industrial park. Its agricultural sector includes dairy and beef production and market gardening produce, especially berries and apples. Maple sugar is also produced.

1691 - (Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures) The town was founded in 1691 by three families (Desroches, Racette, Couture).
In 1816 a third parish church was inaugurated about two kilometers further north of the second church, a sign of the displacement of the center of gravity of the village. This church serves the parish to this day.

1832 - The Parish of St. Augustin
comprehends parts of the SS. of Desmaure, Fausembault and Belair, and belongs to the ladies of l'Hotel Dieu at Quebec. It contains 4 concessions, those nearest the St. Lawrence the most populous. 4/ 5ths of the P. are under cultivation and 1/ 5th in wood. There is one school, supported by the parish, in which 50 scholars are instructed in French and English. Near the church, 130 ft. by 52, built on a point projecting into the St. Lawrence, is the small but pretty village of St. Augustin, consisting of 14 houses including an inn, through which the post road passe. The horses are of the Canadian breed and though small sufficiently good. Nearly all the grain grown is consumed by the P. The roads are not kept in good repair, and there is one bridge over the R. Cap Rouge. Both horses and oxen are used in agriculture. Some surplus manufactured articles are produced for sale. Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures
Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Qué, Parish Municipality, pop 15 727 (2001c), 14 771 (1996c), 12 680 (1991c), area 85.78 km2, founded in 1855, is located about 20 km west of QUÉBEC CITY on the North Shore of the St Lawrence River. Its neighbours to the east are the cities of SAINTE-FOY and Cap-Rouge.
