Gladys Rowland passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Selma, California. She was born to Lee and Lena Bishop in Highland, Kansas, on November 6, 1901. When she was a teenager she moved with her family to a farm near Selma. She was married for 24 years to Gene Browe, with whom she had four daughters. She later married Hiram Rowland. While he was an engineer at Pine Flat Dam they lived in Tivy Valley, moving back to Selma when he retired. After his death she moved into the Bethel Lutheran Home. Her daughter, Lola Owensby is deceased; as are five brothers, Ralph, Harry, Raymond, Alfred, and Pete Bishop; sisters, May Mitchell and lrene Bailey; stepdaughter, Peggy Moore; sons-in-law, Wayne Bohl, Edward Owensby, and Ted Moranda; and step-grandson, Gary Moore. Gladys had a lively mind and an amazing memory. She read constantly. She was interested in and concerned for everyone.
