LEMIEUX - agglutination of 'the best', from the old French 'miels' which means 'the best'. Ironic nickname given to someone who insists a little too much on being 'the best'.
Pierre Lemieux was baptized on October 26, 1616 in St-Michel, Rouen, in Normandy (Seine-Maritime). Son of Pierre Lemieux and Marie Luguan, he married Marie Besnard on September 10, 1647 in Quebec. Seven children were born from their union. He arrived in New France in 1638. He left for France and returned in 1643. He was a master cooper. In 1649, he obtained land from Robert Giffard up to the Montmorency River. In 1659, he acquired land in the Lower Town of Quebec and one at the St-Charles River. He travels a lot due to his job, and one of his trips causes his disappearance. He died between 1660 and 1661.
