"After a dozen years of the solitary life, Jean-Guillaume found a second wife, in Trois-Rivieres. On 11 May 1685, before notary Antoine Adhemar, he made a contract of marriage with Marguerite Benoist, born in 1666, daughter of Gabriel Benoist dit Laforest and of Marie-Anne Guedon. The nuptial ceremony took place on the following 26 November in the church which the bridegroom had helped to construct. The act says that our ancestor was 34 years old, and that Marguerite as 19 years old."

'It appears that Marguerite Benoist spent her last years at Yamachiche at the home of her eldest son, Jean-Charles. On 19 August 1728, we learn that the widow was indebted to Joseph Leclerc dit Fleurant of Becancour for the sum of 151 livres. She must have died at the end of this same year, since on 4 January 1729, Jean-Charles, guardian of his four minor brothers, requested an inventory of the property of his dead father and mother.'
