Harriet Quimby was a pioneering figure in aviation, making a significant impact on the early days of flight. Born on May 11, 1875, in Arcadia, Michigan, she grew up with a passion for writing and eventually pursued a career in journalism. Harriet moved to New York City and became a theater critic for Leslie's Illustrated Weekly. Her writing skills and adventurous spirit set the stage for her future in aviation.

In 1910, Harriet Quimby witnessed the Belmont Park International Aviation Tournament, where she became fascinated with aviation. Inspired by the feats of early aviators, she decided to try flying herself. Harriet took flying lessons from Matilde Moisant, a pioneering aviator and the second woman in the United States to earn a pilot's license. Harriet quickly grasped the essentials of flying and earned her own pilot's license on August 1, 1911, becoming the first woman in the United States to do so.
