'Andre Bergeron, son of Pierre and of Catherine Marchand, was born at Saint-Saturnin-du-Bois where he was baptized on 16 February 1642... Andre Bergeron did not have the opportunity to get an education; he did not know how to write. His mother died before he came to New France, since his father crossed the Atlantic with him about 1665...'

'It was Eustache Lambert, first a donne to the Jesuits, then a colonist, trader and merchant, married to Marie Laurence about 1656, who hired Andre Bergeron and his elderly father. In the census of 1666, they were in his service in the Upper Town of Quebec, in the company of Jean Adam, Thomas Lefebvre and Andre Robideau. The following year, the census takers mentioned the presence of Andre and Pierre as employees of the same patron, but living on the Coast of Lauzon. Pierre said he was 77 years old and Andre 22; he was actually 25 years old.'
