1640 Baptism
'...Michel was baptized in the church of Saint-Ours, on 9 March 1640. It all corresponded with the contract and marriage act drawn up 25 years later at Quebec. Michel was indeed the son of Jacques Chretien and Catherine Nivard. The officiating priest N. Poussier indicated that the godfather and godmother were Louys Douard and Anne Nivard, probably relatives of their tiny godson.'

Arrival in New France about 1662
'On 27 February 1665, in the presence of the notary Paul Vachon, he accepted from Father Claude Dablon, administrator for the College of the Jesuits at Quebec, a concession in the seigneurie of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, in the place called Charlesbourg. He lived there until death called him more than a half-century later.'
'That date of 27 February let it be understood that the pioneer from Touraine arrived in New France at the latest in the preceding year, perhaps even 1662, if we take into account the duration of the indenture contracts of this era, i.e., generally for three years...'
