Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Deceased Name: Rev. Frank E. Dunn, area church founder

The Rev. Frank E. Dunn, 92, of 1266 Enfield St., Enfield, and formerly of Feeding Hills, the founder of Valley Community Church in Feeding Hills, died on Thursday in a Holyoke nursing home.

He established the church in 1968, and retired in 1981.

His first calling was in Hampstead, N.H., followed by Andover. He came to the Springfield area in 1946, and headed the Springfield Area Council of Churches.

He was pastor of the Feeding Hills Congregational Church from 1947 until 1961.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was graduated from Mount Hermon School in Northfield in 1927. He also was graduated from Boston University and the Harvard Divinity School in 1934.

He was secretary of the alumni at Mount Hermon School in 1935-1942, and received their Lamplighter Award.
