Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' SHREWSBURY - Gretchen (Wohlbruck) Bath, of 504 Grafton St., who was active for many years with the Girl Scouts of America, died yesterday at home after a long illness.

Her husband, Russell F. Bath Sr., died in 1971. She leaves a son, Russell F. Bath Jr. of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Nancy B. Roof of New York City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Priscilla D. Doyle, died in 1972. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Theodore and Mabel (Brown) Wohlbruck, and was raised there. She lived here since 1931. She spent summers at Humarock Beach in Marshfield for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Bath was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts here, and volunteered for many Girl Scout projects and programs. She was a life member of the Shrewsbury Women's Club. She was an advisor for the Lambda Tau Sorority of Shrewsbury High School.
