Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Mrs. Robert J. Doyle
WESTPORT - Mrs. Priscilla Bath Doyle, 45, of 4 Tomahawk lane, wife of Robert J. Doyle, died yesterday in her home.

Services will take place Friday at a time to be announced by the Fable funeral home, 215 West State street.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Doyle was a resident of Westport for 16 years. She was a member of the Westport Young Women's League and treasurer of Westport Social Bridge Ladder.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Deborah Ann Doyle and Miss Carolyn Whitney Doyle, both of Westport; her mother, Mrs. Russell F. Bath, of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a brother, Russell F. Bath, Jr., of Grafton, Mass,; a sister, Mrs. Nancy Roof, of Newton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
